Visit Chiba, Japan

One of Japan's most visited prefectures — and one of its least understood. Chiba has 99 km of Pacific coastline, ancient temples, fresh seafood, and Tokyo Disney. It also happens to be the most affordable place to stay near Tokyo.

Urayasu / Maihama

Best for: Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea

Hotels here range from Disney-adjacent resorts to business hotels along the Keiyo Line. Urayasu is technically Chiba Prefecture but feels like Tokyo.

Planning Your Visit

  • Best time to visit: March–May (cherry blossoms, mild weather) or September–November (clear skies, beach still warm).
  • Getting around: JR lines connect most areas. Rent a car for the Boso Peninsula coast — trains are limited south of Tateyama.
  • From Narita: The Sobu-Yokosuka Line runs direct to Tokyo in about 1 hour. Chiba City is just 30 minutes.
  • Thinking of relocating? Many visitors to the area end up considering longer stays. See area data →
