Common questions
Is BayMap data free?
Yes. All transaction data, population statistics, and city indicators on BayMap are free to browse. Our data sources are Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and official government statistics.
Can foreigners buy property in Japan?
Yes. Japan imposes no nationality-based restrictions on real estate ownership. Non-residents and foreign nationals can purchase freehold property including condominiums and land. See our buyer guide for the full process.
How recent is your transaction data?
MLIT releases transaction data quarterly. The dataset typically reflects deals completed 6–9 months prior to the release date. We update the database when new official data is published.
Do you offer agent referrals or advisory?
BayMap is a data platform, not a licensed real estate agency. We provide independent market data to help buyers and investors make informed decisions. We may share partner agent recommendations in the future.
Can I use BayMap data for research or media?
Attribution is appreciated. Underlying data is sourced from Japan's MLIT public records (open data). BayMap's analysis, charts, and scoring models are original work. Contact us for media partnerships or data licensing.
